Bithia? Tachinidae central France
clovis
Dear all,

Here is a Tachnid question.
Specimen is from central France (loire atlantique, dry habitat).
Following central key, I endend on Bithia (B modesta if I try to go to species identification)
But I must be wrong, has the front is much narrower than should be and arista has no hairs.
So a little help to go further?
I am not totaly sure it is not a Rhinophoridae, subscutellum is totally hidden (but there is no petiole on wing)

Best wishes,
clovis

Such a narrow frons is acceptable for Bithia immaculata.

Sorry, I could not access my speciemens before.

Many thanks for your help Theo!

I ruled out B immaculata because of the abdominal line I see on this angle. But maybe it is to moderate to take account of?

Yes, no imma ulata but it does looks like Bithia.
I am on the road now. Check Peter Tschorsnigs key (online available in English at Chris Raper's) website. One has a hooked syncercus, yhe other has not.

Tschorsnigs'key is the "central european key"?
I was unable to find another key.

Using it, I'd stay on B modesta: syncercus straight, frons 0,59-0,8 wide one eye.
Do you agree?

Many thanks foryou help Smile
Good travelling (possible in you country? luky you!)

Yes, the central European one.

As for Covid, it seems we have a "Dont ask, dont tell" policy...
