Dasysyrphus?
Alvesgaspar
First I thought this was a Dasysyrphus albostriatus but the wings seem too coloured. Body length 8-10mm.

Thanks,

Joaquim Gaspar

Sundew
A Chrysotoxum, something like C. arcuatum? Compare this website: http://www.syrphi...20w07.html. There are lots of good syrphid photos.
Regards, Sundew

Alvesgaspar
I don't think it is a C. arcuatum. Could it be a Xanthogramma pedissequum?

Joaquim Gaspar

Sundew
No - Xanthogramma has different antennae. You can all those wasp-like species compare on the syrphid website above (http://www.syrphi...ege-chrys/).
Sundew

Kahis
It is one of the Mediterranean Chrysotoxum species.

Thank you, Sundew and Kahis, after all I think you are right. It should be indeed C. arcuatum Smile

amalia_raluca
in my opinion this is C. fasciolatum
Amalia

Alvesgaspar
Why do you think so, is there some clear evidence? The yellow stripes in C. fasciolatum seem narrower

amalia_raluca
i will ckeck again because now at a secons view I am thinking that I am in a wrong direction...I have compared some pictures of C. fasciolatum with your picture...and you are write ..there are narrow stripes...and there are some other differences...Cool

amalia_raluca
well...know I can tell you why I was thinking to fasciolatum....
wing: front margin yellowish with a distinct dark spot....abdomen elongate...now looking to the side you gave us...it could be arcuatum.
I also took in care the yellowish-orange hairs of the abdomen...
But let listen others opinions from others specialists, maybe I am completely wrong...

Gerard Pennards
This is a male Chrysotoxum intermedium (third antennal segment distinctly longer than 1 and 2 together, abdomen seemingly bare, frons black). But, as said before, it is generally believed this 'species' will turn out to be a species complex with more species in southern europe!
Greetings,
