Hello, After Jorge's return with so spectacular flies I have some qualms to go on with my dull dead ones! As I have no chance to top him, however, and am eager to know who died between our window panes, here comes the next one. Some of the head setae are probably broken off, but the mouth parts look interesting (to me). The tibiae are spurred, the eyes seem to bear short yellow hairs, and the thorax is covered with short hairs but has only few setae on the sides. Is there a chance to find out family and genus? Many thanks indeed - once one has a name, one finds many interesting information in the internet. That the strong setae are finely hairy I guess to recognize only after reading about this fact; I have half a mind to put my dead fly under the scanning electron microscope... (Then the resolution of my photos would top all your super DSLR cameras  !)Would you consider it useful to put one or two detail pictures (head, wing venation) into the gallery? Sundew |

and to go ahead with whatever was great the photo... it is impossible. Megaselia genus is a great mess! I think I'm not wrong saying that this genus accounts almost 50% for Phoridae family.  It is terrible to adventure in Megaselia flies. At the same level with some Sarcophagids, or Cecidomyiidae I'd dare to say. |

No,dear Jorge, I am absolutely pleased to know the genus and do not intend to search for a species name with hi tech. My idea just was to depict some minute details that are helpful for genus ID and are hidden to "normal" cameras as mine. Without the stereo microscope I would never be able to take photos like the ones above - and would not recognize the beauty that also minute flies display! Best wishes, Sundew |
