Tachinidae: Atylomyia sp.
ESant
Hello,

I photographed this fly in Bazzano (AQ), Italy on June 2nd 2021. I think it is a Tachinidae, but is it possible to identify its genus or species just from this photo?

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

Yes, it is a Tachinid and it looks very interesting. I need to work on this one.

Thank you Theo! I can only add another shot of the same specimen, but unfortunatly it's quite blurry and I don't think it can be very helpful.

I am still very confused

* apical scutellar bristles strong and erect
* second aristal segemnt very elongated (4 x as long as wide)
* bend of vein M with a fold or appendix

There is simply no match to these simple and straightforwatd options (www.tachinidae.eu). So i am doing something wrong.

You did not collect the specimen, by any chance ?

No, I usually don't collect specimens.

I tried using www.tachinidae.eu too, but even after selecting slightly different options, the results are the same.
I don't know if it can help for the identification, but I remember that this specimen was quite small. After comparing it with the stem it was standing on in the first photo (Convolvulus arvensis) I estimated that it was around 3mm long.
