It was very actively nectaring so only these poor images but I'll be happy for a family ID. Hi Ray, I think you should add Tachinidae to your thread's title to attract the expert. My first glimpse led to Phania but this doesn't seem to be right. Unfortunately I could not find a better fit. Do you have more pictures in other angles (even in worse condition) of this fly?

Great! Thanks again. Have never seen it before nor again. That Heracleum sphondylium was a magnet for so many different insects but unfortunately it's now gone to seed. |
