 Aedes punctor?

In June this year I took a picture of a mosquito stinging a green frog -Rana esculenta - in it's nose (Revenge!). I always assumed this was an Aedes punctor. Is this correct? Thank you for comments, Niek |

Thanks for comment Jorge. The leaf disturbs me too but I had no time to remove it when taking the picture and I do not "photoshop" my pictures. Regards, Niek |

Aedes maybe. punctor I don?t know.  Tony knows much better than myself about Culicidae. |

The abdominal pattern (with pale scales on the posterior edge of the tergites) strongly suggests Culex territans - well-known as a frog-feeding mosquito. Aedes punctor has the pale bands at the base of the tergites, and (at least in Brtiain) primarily feeds on mammals.
