Gymnosoma ID after barcoding
Carnifex
Initially I had IDed this specimen as Gymnosoma rotundatum. Barcoding however suggested G. nitens.
According to Tschorsnig's key, for G. nitens 'the petiole of R5 ends in the wing tip'. For me, this is not the wing tip, but looking at the Figures in the key, it actually seems to be closer to the wing tip than it should for G. rotundatum...

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

Hi Lorin, you are right - it's not exactly the wing-tip, but much closer than rotundatum. The pattern of the abdomen as well as the size (I think it sits on a Cornus sp.) points to nitens, too.
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner
