Hi, I think we can go further. Your specimen has 1 (pair of) sc; 2dc; 3vt; Mesonotum black; Pleuron black (with yelow spot on proepisternum => Chamaepsila persimilis or confusa. This is where the identification becomes more complicated as Cha. confusa has in the apically black palpus and the entirely black postpedicel, whereas Cha. persimilis has a partially black postpedicel (as here) and yellow palps (not as here). If you have kept it and it is a male then examination of the genitalia would be a reliable source of identification. If not then leave it as Cha. persimilis/confusa, although I lean more towards Cha. persimilis (I have both species with me) JOcelyn |

Pentti, I apologise for my mistake. I was not satisfied with my answer and the dilemma with the criteria of one or the other of these two species stated before; In fact if one looks at your pictures well one realizes that there is only one pair of dc on the mesonotum, and not two as I thought I saw! So not only can it not be persimilis/confusa but 1sc+1dc+3vt+Yellow body setae+Mesonotum and pleura completely black to brown + Yellowish proepisternum. Postpronotum and pleurae paler, sometimes entirely black pleurae + Scutellum black + Reddish head => Chamaepsila limbatella (Zetterstedt, 1847) |
