Hello, two years ago I had my first encounter with the genus Cylindromyia here (northwest Germany), two individuals in about 2 weeks. They were identified by Theo Zeegers as Cylindromyia brassicaria. Yesterday I found the genus again on camomile flowers next to a path between acres. Length about 10 mm. It was conspicuous, that one individual had a continuous stripe on its abdomen, the other not. Different species, a gender difference or simple variation? Here also a little video of one of the flies cleaning its legs: https://insektenf...utzend.mp4 Edited by Juergen Peters on 15-09-2021 22:11 Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

Hallo Jürgen, the other one - with continuous stripe - has no discals: C. Pusilla?
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner |

Both have basal scutellar bristles so both are males in the brassicaria group. Much too vig for pusilla. Theo |

Thanks, Theo! Zeegers wrote: Much too big for pusilla. the second one may have been a little bit smaller, but not strikingly. Still, the wing venation and the arista contradicts pusilla. Theo |
