Sapromyzosoma laevatrispina or quadricincta ?
GAREL Jean-Michel
Hello.
A copulation of Lauxaniidae was observed at home on october 8th. I have some doubt about the identification since 2 pairs of black spots are seen for the female but no for the male. For the second picture male head on the left and female head on the right . Is it always leavatrispina for 3 pairs of black spots ? and always quadricincta for 1 pair of black spots ? When 2 pairs of black spots are seen what is the species, moreover, in this case If a smaller pair of spots can be observed what is the conclusion ?
For the present observation a sexual dimorphism or a copulation between 2 closely related species cannot be excluded ; this is my hypothesis , but I am not sure that it is correct.
All my thanks for your response.

S. laevatrispina mostly three paitrs of spots, two pairs are not unfrequent; S. quadrixcincta either one pair or two pairs. Specimens with two pairs of spots cannot be ID-ed without a look at the genitalia.
