I have collected some Machimus species from Croatia and i´m not sure if i have identified it correctly. I used the key form Engel (1930) and landed by Machimus diagonalis. The specimens are about 25mm big. locality: 45°00'10.4"N 14°54'18.6"E Date: 14.07.2021 Habitat: rocky hill leaning towards south western direction. Very open with only a few trees and bushes. From the same habitat i have another Machimus specimen which looks pretty similar, but it has white-yellowish bristles. I have found no fitting description for this specimen. best regards Daniel Edited by Daniel97 on 14-11-2021 22:23 |

If you get to M. diagonalis that means that there is no extension on the eighth sternite, in the picture there seems to be one? I get to something like M. fimbriatus although the mystax is too dark for that species. The one you describe sounds like M. rusticus.
