Tephritidae? --> Tephritis crepidis (male)
HTK
Mechernich (Germany). This morning, 19 April 2022, on fresh shoots of funkia. Length about 0,5 – 0,7 cm. Tephritidae, could it be Tephritis sp.? I would be grateful for your opinion.

Nosferatumyia
85% Tephritis hyosciami (15%: T. hendeli). As it is a male, no closer approximation is possible.

Difficult, but I think the wingpattern is typical for Tephritis crepidis. I have combined the second picture of HTK with one of mine to compare.
I've seen more Tephritis crepidis with rather reduced black pattern in wing, like in my second picture, which was a fly sitting for three days on the same Crepis biennis plant.

Hello Val and Ben,
thank you very much for the close examination and the interesting discussion of this fly and the final agreement on the species. So I think it is safe to count it as Tephritis crepidis. In case they are of interest to you I attach some additional pictures. Unfortunately the fly decided (after picture 1 above) to make off into the distance when I moved closer with the camera, and it was not seen again.

Best wishes,
Hans Theo
