Strange Eristalis pertinax? (06.05.22) --> confirmed

Hello, I have learned, that E. pertinax is the only Eristalis species with yellow fore tarsi - and the the males have a rather conical abdomen. This male from yesterday at a hedge (northwest Germany) has light fore tarsi, but a an oval abdomen. The spring males shown in Steven Falk's collection (https://www.flick...771179127/) look quite similar! Maybe yours is just retracting the abdomen a bit. Best wishes, Sundew |
