Would it be possible to put at name to this Asilidae? It reminds me of Pycnopogon I photographed somewhere else. Photographed at Col du Zad, Middle Atlas in Morocco on 31 May 2022. Altitude 2200 meters Thank you! Johan ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by johanvantbosch on 10-06-2022 19:25 Best wishes, Johan van 't Bosch Rotterdam, The Netherlands |

Thank you, Chris! I have now found this article, https://www.researchgate.net/publication/359909389_Catalogue_of_the_Diptera_Insecta_of_Morocco-an_annotated_checklist_with_distributions_and_a_bibliography A catalogue of the Diptera of Morocco. It lists Acnephalum, not Pycnopogon, with 3 species. Acnephalum Macquart, 1838 = Pycnopogon Loew, 1847 in Londt 2010 Acnephalum apiformis (Macquart in Lucas, 1849) Acnephalum denudatus (Séguy, 1949) Acnephalum fasciculatus (Loew, 1847) So I assume it should be Acnecephalum then. The Pycnopogon species were moved to Acnephalum by Londt, but most workers don't accept this (including myself). |
