Campichoetidae
Carnifex
While pinning flies, a visitor came to my desk - never seen a member from this family alive before.

Should be Campichoeta punctum? C. grandiloba, however, has been reported from somewhere in Hungary - so not that far from Vienna...

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

When I was handling bowls of flies in drying agents I was visited by several Tachinaephagus zealandicus, a parasitoid of muscoid flies. The vapor must have smelled appealing.

To be quite sure you should have to examine genitalia of this specimen.

I had to make a decision - take some photos or catch it directly.
After few shots it flew away, I immediately closed door and window and scanned ceiling and walls for some time, but it wasn't found again.

There are some spiders in the room as well, so it might have ended in a net...

Don't regret my decision, however Smile
Cheers, Lorin
