Hello, Yesterday I saw this Chironomid in Nieuwegein (The Netherlands) and I think it might be a male Stenochironomus gibbus. Since most pictures I can find are of females I'm not completely sure though. Can somebody perhaps confirm the ID? Thanks in advance, Reindert van Eekelen |

According to Borkent's revision, only three species of Stenochironomus are known from Europe: S. hibernicus with pale wings, S. gibbus with a median band and small apical band, and S. fascipennis with a median band and large apical dark band (entering cells r3 and cua1). The genus is much more speciose in Japan and the Americas. |

Thanks for your reply and the information John. So since this is clearly not hibernicus or fascipennis, it should be gibbus I guess...? Kind regards, Reindert |
