HI, photographed this fly in 8 January. more than 10 exemplary seen in very small flies over the snow, more like some kind of leaps. size around 4-5 mm. one exemplary collected if something more special needed to be seen. it is Lotophila atra from Sphaeroceridae? thanks in advance for your help, cosmln [EDIT]: title changed Edited by cosmln on 11-01-2008 02:09 |

Sphaeroceridae yes... BUT not Lotophila atra. For example, the scutum is very bristly. All legs very dark. Not the case for L. atra where in basal tibia has a yellowish hue (less than basal half). Also this seems to have more tomentum on scutum than the L. atra. Tony Irwin or Paul will help here.  |
