Hello, I photographed this fly on Mentha today and I see T. magnicornis here. Am I right in my assumption? Greetings, Volker ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Volker on 21-08-2022 20:22 ![]() |

Hi Volker, I'm sure you are! (Though it's a female and these are quite tricky - varium et mutabile semper femina [Vergil]![]() Edited by eklans on 20-08-2022 14:56 Greetings, Eric Kloeckner |

Thanks Volker, it's not exactly what I wanted to see but the tarsomere seems to be skewed. Anyhow I'm sure it's magnicornis - the fore tarsi are black and the black longitudinal abdominal stripe widens distinctly towards the end on tergite 5.

Hello Eric, thanks for confirmation. The tarsi are difficult to judge, depending on the view of the legs. In nature, it is difficult to show the individual body parts well. But what should it be other than this species? Greetings, Volker ![]() |

Yes, and I think, magnicornis may have a pointed midstripe but fera not a widened one. (T&H key, Ceretti)
