Hello. These specimens were collected in pastures with cattle in North Spain in 2020. The males were identified as H. meridionalis according to the key of Nikita Vikhrev (2013). However, I have done DNA barcoding and do not match, should be other species. I suspect that they are other species that I am not aware of. Does anybody have an idea of the possible species? Any attemps? Many thanks in advance. I appreciate comments. Edited by MikelAlexander34 on 17-11-2022 22:13 |

It doesn't look a million miles from Nikita's photo of Hydrotaea borussica in the Gallery... https://diptera.i...to_id=3309 plus.. http://www.spessa...ssica.html Could be wrong, it won't be the first time, or the last Regards Roger Edited by Roger Thomason on 18-11-2022 17:41 |

Mid femur shows that it is not borussica. Either meridionalis or pandellei

1. t3 fits well meridionalis 2. Of course, meridionalis and pandellei are very close species. 3. Rarely pandellei has abdomen widely yellow. Edited by Nikita Vikhrev on 20-11-2022 22:31 Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |
