Wondering if Agromyzidae imagos are ID-able by image. Not the best image, but worth a try. Netherlands, 2022-09-20, around 3mm, on an Aquilegia vulgaris. Edited by smol on 19-02-2023 21:10 |

Somewhat the same found: Could this be Phytomyza? Found this ID matrix (https://agromyzidae.linnaeus.naturalis.nl/linnaeus_ng/app/views/matrixkey/index.php?mtrx=167), even though not all species are in there it might be enough for a genus? |

This looks like Phytomyza, yes, but in many (most?) cases you will need male genitalia for a reliable ID.

Agromyzidae: Napomyza sp. (lateralis (Fallén) group). In the first image the second cross vein is indistinctly to be seen in continuation of the anterior cross vein. 3rd antennal segment short as in most species, antenna black. |

Thank you very much, von Tschirnhaus! I have been using one of a matrix I believe you also contributed to (https://agromyzidae.linnaeus.naturalis.nl/linnaeus_ng/app/views/matrixkey/index.php?mtrx=167) to get some info on identifying Agromyzidae. How could I separate Napomyza vs Phytomyza? Anything resource I can read? ------- I believe my other ones are also Napomyzo then (if at all identifiable): - https://waarneming.nl/observation/255071983/ - https://waarneming.nl/observation/256899111/ https://waarneming.nl/observation/251539040/ -> Melanagromyza? |
