Hydrellia
Sam Thomas
Hi,

I've a couple of Hydrellia from different UK sites that I have dissected but can't work out based on Martin Drake's draft key. They both seem somewhat near to H. mutata based on external morphology and genitalia but seem quite different from each other based on their genitalia.

A long shot but does anyone recognise them based on their genitalia?

Both from rich wetlands, first in the Nofolk broads and second Amberley in Sussex.

Many thanks,
Sam

I think you're right with mutata for photo 2, but I'm not sure about photo 1 - possibly subalbiceps? Have you got a lateral view of the aedeagus?

Thanks Tony, good to get confirmation on photo 2. Yes, H. subalbiceps seems the most likely for #1 just wasn't convinced by the cerci in Martin's draft key. The aedeagus of number 1 is less curved in profile, I'll try and get a decent picture.
