Hello, I photographed these flies on Monte Ruzza (AQ), Italy, 1600m a.s.l. on October 30th 2022. In this case I'm not even sure of the family they might belong to. Is it possible to identify their genus or species from these photos? Thank you in advance, Emanuele Edited by ESant on 30-01-2023 11:37 |

Heleomyzidae? Anyway, it would be helpful if you would estimate the length of body (or length of wing, which seem to be appoximately the same). |

Thank you! I didn't think about Heleomyzidae but some members of the family are indeed similar. These specimens were quite small, I'd say their body length was around 3mm. Unfortunately I can't give a more accurate measurement. |

Probably Oldenbergiella sp. Please catch a couple and send to me for identification to the species level :-)

Thank you very much Andrzej! Unfortunately at the moment Monte Ruzza is covered in snow, so I doubt it'd be possible to collect them, but I'll definitely try to find some when I get the chance. |
