Hi everyone, i have an Empis that i can't get to genus or species with Hackston's Empis key, as i keep ending up at impennis (but it is not black which this spp. should be) or albinervis (but it does not have this species' leg fringes) Is anyone able to help? Axillary excision in wing acute; stripes on thorax are darker along the lines of bristles; only the upper vein from the discal cell is abbreviated;Only the sides of the prothoracic sternum are hairy;Acrostichal bristles present; Halteres yellow; abdominal hairs white |

Leg ornaments are sexually dimorphic in tribe Empidini. The female of Empis albinervis has fringed legs. The male has a projection on tergite 7, visible in your lateral shot. |
