Hybomitra solstitialis? Nope, it's Hybomitra tarandina
Rupert Huber
Hi all!

Is it possible to confirm (or correct) Hybomitra solstitialis with these frontal pictures? It's the closest I can find in Theo's book (eye pattern, orange antennas).
On the second pic one can see, that the femurs of the frontal legs are mostly black.

Unfortunately it flew away without allowing me a dorsal or lateral pic.

About as big as my well known alltime friend H. auripila.

3.6.2023, Germany, Upper Bavaria, Northern slopes of Mt. Hochfelln, close to side summit called "Bründlinkopf", on a meadow used as ski slope during winter, about 1190 m a.s.l., coordinates 47.76938, 12.56328.

Did you check the colour if the legs ?

It is H. tarandina, very rare in Germany !!

Many thanks Theo!

Seems to be a good mountain for rarities - last year's Odontomyia hydroleon (you remember, I guess) was from there, too. Maybe I'll go there again tomorrow. Smile
Best greetings

It was known from Bayern, but I still need to check what wolfgang (Schacht) had to say on tarandina.
