Sarcophagidae--> Metopia cf. tshernovae
Lavendel
Is it possible to ID this Tachinidae (Metopia?) with a reflecting fore-head?
The Netherlands, Dunes, today.

Hi Sandra, Metopia (Sarcophagidae) is correct - looks like male M. argyrocephala.

Pity the frontal tarsus is out of focus.
The not so strong contrast betweensilver and dark on the head suggests another species, like rondaniana or argentata.
The specimen is very fresh, so difficult to be sure.

it is definitely not argyrocephala and I don’t see the “rondaniana-hairs” on tarsus. most likely M. tshernovae, but since it is so teneral, difficult to guess how the fronto-orbital plates eventually would end up.

Many thanks Theo. The specimen was not collected. So Metopia cf. tshernovae is.
