Metopia argyrocephala? --> Metopia rondaniana (male)
ukursawe
Hi,

This fly took a rest on the wall of our house in the late afternoon.

I think it could be a member of the Sarcophagidae family. My guess would be Metopia argyrocephala, though I have no idea, if it is a male or female. Can that be confirmed or excluded from the attached image and/or is a determination possible?

Germany, Southern Bavaria, Munich (-West), 13.07.2023, app. 6 mm

Greetings, Uli

Hi Theo,

thanks for your assessment. I was afraid, it wouldn't be that easy, but is Sarcophagidae confirmed and maybe the genus?

Hi Theo,

thanks for your reply. Metopia sp. is actually quite ok for me. Unfortunately I have only a poor picture from the front tarsus, which is probably not going to help. It would be easier if I knew in advance, which features are important for determination Wink. But I have never seen one of those before, the next time I see one I will try to do better.

Greetings, Uli

If life was only that easy …. every genus has it own specific features of relevance. If you really want to know, you need to by the handbooks…..

that said, this definitely looks like M. rondaniana.
