Hi, If a big syrphid looks like wearing shiny velvet, I call it, irrespective of its colouring, Eristalis intricaria. Other bumblebee-like furry syrphids look scrubbier. Do you agree? This male is feeding on Echinocystis lobata (Cucurbitaceae) on the Island of Usedom in last August. Cheers, Sundew |
