Hello everyone, I photographed this approximately 7 mm fly today in southwest Germany in the Black Forest. Is this a male of the genus Bellardia? Greetings Siggi Edited by Siegfried Rudolf on 25-10-2023 20:44 |

Hi Siggi, Calliphoridae is correct and it's probably a male Bellardia vulgaris: wing veins brownish, not black? hairs on tergite 4 shorter than marginal bristles? 1+2 intralalar bristles? Greetings, Eric Kloeckner |

Hi Eric, many thanks for your answer. Bellardia vulgaris is a good option. Unfortunately, it is not easy to see whether the wing veins are brownish or black because the sunlight is so bright. The length of the hairs on tergite 4 is also difficult to see because the enlarged image is blurry. Do you think I can still write Bellardia cf. vulgaris? Hi Siggi, the last image shows the hairs on tergite 4 being approx. as long as the marginals and the right wing's veins look really black. I think you may write Bellardia viarum. Greetings, Eric Kloeckner |

Hi Eric, distinguishing between the often similar looking species is very difficult. It's a good thing that there is a specialist light. Thank you very much. Greetings Siggi |
