Agromyzid from Verbascum --> Amauromyza varbasci
Juergen Peters
Hello!

A member of my forum, Gabi Krumm, asked me to put these photos here. These 3 mm flies hatched from a Verbascum leaf on February-07 (southern Germany, Rhine valley). I think they are Agromyzids. Can that be narrowed down? Thanks in advance!

Filex
Seguy, 1934 lists the following species from Verbascum species Dizygomyza verbasci, Napomyza lateralis and Melanagromyza lappae. Nomenclature could be out-dated. Are there pictures of the mines it may produce?

Regards

Miquel

Hello, Paul and Miquel!

Thanks for your replies! I will ask Gabi, if she has (or can make) photos of the mines.
Best regards,
Jürgen

I think this may be Amauromyza varbasci (Bouch?)

According to Seguy and the websites above:

Triangle acellaire, face ,car?ne, p?ristome et palpes noires. Antenes jaunes: troisieme article plus ou moins bruni. Calus hum?ral et d?preesion notopleurale jaunes. Soies acrosticales en quatre rangs. M?sopleure, bords sup?rieur et inf?rieur ?troitement jaunes. Pattes noires; f?murs jaunes a l'apex. Balancieres jaunes. Cuillerons ? bordure jaune et pilosit? brune. Abdomen: parties lat?rales et bord post?rieur des segments plus ou moins jauni. Long.:3 mm.

The mines are described as large, pale blotch mines ocurring in the upper surface, often with several mines occurring in the same leaf. (Other agromyzid species in Verbascum have corridor mines)

Puparium orange-yellow.
