Phaonia ?
Vinex
Hello,

I'm new to this forum but I was recommended to come here. I come form Insecte.org which is a french forum that also talks about insects.
About 2 weeks ago I found this Phaonia fly that has been proven to be to much for me and other members of the forum.

I've been told that there is 53 species of Phaonia in France, I used an identification key of British Muscidae fly but found nothing..

This fly is particular because of the number of bristles on its second and third tibias as well as completely black legs.

Thanks in advance for your help ^^

Hello, I don't think it's a Phaonia sp. - and I guess it could be a female Hydrotaea sp.
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

I've heard of the genus Hydrotaea, I was quite sure my specimen had the infamous Phaonia hair (or bristle) which leaded in the wrong direction ! I will go do some research about this particular genus, I will post an update here if I find anything.

Thank you for your reply Grin
