According to Tomasovic & Bartolozzi “Contribution to the knowledge of the robber flies from Vietnam, with description of nine new species”, 2018, no Choerades species had previously been reported from Vietnam. https://www.academia.edu/82413107/Contribution_To_The_Knowledge_Of_The_Robber_Flies_From_Vietnam_With_Description_Of_Nine_New_Species_Diptera_Asilidae_ In their study, the authors found and described 9 Asilidae species new to science. One of them: Choerades xuansonensis sp. N. was found in Xuan Son National Park. This specimen in the photo was observed just outside Xuan Son National Park. So, if it is a Choerades sp., it could very well be Choerades xuansonensis. Can anyone comment? Thanks in advance, David |

Hi David, Chris & Wojciech, On inaturalist there are three photo's of Choerades sp: https://www.inatu...s/37628409 https://www.inatu.../179665159 https://www.inatu...s/37724123 Difficult to see, but none look like Choerades xuansonensis Tomasovic & Bartolozzi 2018 As to Mactea, there are four described species, the only one with entirely golden haired abdominal terga is Mactea pyrrhothrix Hermann, 1914. A specimen would need to be collected to compare or desscribe the species in the photo. Kind regards, Ectemnius Edited by Ectemnius on 23-01-2024 12:48 |
