Hello, I saw several of this Ephydridae walking on the water of ponds in a farm in southern France in last December. French specialist suggest Coenia, maybe palustris, but this taxa seems not well known in France. Thank you for your advice Edited by apusapus on 23-01-2024 19:38 |

I don't know beyond subfamily Ephydrinae but I doubt Coenia s. str. Mathis (1975) distinguished Coenia with three pairs of dorsocentrals and no humeral bristles from Paracoenia with four pairs of dorsocentrals and well developed humeral bristles. |

If I am interpreting the slightly fuzzy characters correctly, this looks more like Paracoenia fumosa
