C. vomitoria has red beard, this makes this species unique in Europe. Vicina has black beard, but some other species have black beard, too.

Basicosta - vicina brown, vomitoria black Anterior spiracle - vicina yellow, vomitoria dark Beard - vicina black, vomitoria red Genae - vicina red or red/black bicolour, vomitoria dark grey Susan |

vomitoria has gena, epaulletes, anterior spiracles all dark. Gena for vicina is red. This fly has very dark colour to be vicina.  |
