Found in damp leaf litter about 6mm long several of them in one place. South coast England 05/02/06. Thanks in advance Brian V. |

What comes into my head is Stratiomyidae (soldier flies) - thei larvae are quite similar. But lets wait for other opinions |

Definitely, I think it is one of the Sarginae with Microchrysa and Chloromyia as most likely candidates (former has the best chances I think) but I cannot rule out Sargus or Beridinae (Beris or Chorisops) on the basis of this picture.
