Short antennas in the flies

If the flies are really very sensitive to the chemicals of the air... why they do have shorter antennas in relation to the other insects?? |

It might be because they can smell with their feet, but I suspect it is more complicated than that. |

... flies perceive taste by their feet. I think short but loaded with sensilla atennae ate trade offs between requirements of swift and fast movement and sensoral capacity. It would be interesting to compare how the length of feniculus and movement ability are related in different Musciforma
