Neottiophilidae?
conopid
I found this fly wandering about in the kitchen. It looks like the Neottiophilidae in the gallery. Am I right?

Yes, this is Neottiophilum praeustrum. As far as I know it is currently placed in the family Piophilidae (subfamily Neottiophilinae). I always thought is was N. praeustum, but this seems to be a misspelling and should be N. praeustrum.
Maybe Andrey Ozerov can tell us more about this?

praeustum is correct, the praeustrum must be a scanning/typographical error. Check http://www.dipter...?cat_id=15 where you can find a downloadable zip archive with Meigen's 1826 paper. The Meigen_1826a.pdf paper op p. 257 clearly states Dryom. praeusta.

Thanks Paul! On www.faunaeur.org (which is certainly not without typo's) it says "praeustrum". I also found a few other sites with this spelling. Therefor I thought I had just missed a name change.

Probably a repetitive error.
