Hallo again, Though I examened all the 15 pages about Syrphidae in the Gallery, I could not find this one. I found it some days ago (10th of June) in Southern Germany, 700 m over sea, in a Garden with a pool near the pool. I think it was about 1 cm, but I am very bad in guessing the length. I am sorry, the photo is not better, but I hope the pattern is so clear, that somebody will recognize it. Thanks at any rate, Siga |

There are many similarities, but (because I do not know) can the pattern differ so much. I have the idea, that "my" fly has longer wings, and I am missing the brownish in the wings too. of course, if you know for shure, but I think you don't do you? Greetings, Siga |

Right, I don't know anything for shure and I'm no expert. But M. van Veen whrites that: - in flight it can be confused with Dasysyrphus tricinctus and it is not D.t. - tergites 2 and 4 with distinct yellow bands. If other tergites with yellow bands -> var. tricinctum So, if these fine lines are bands, yours is Chrysotoxum bicinctum var. tricinctum (I think) With regards Maja |

So, if three persons agree, that it is a Chrysotoxum bicinctum, and noone disagrees, I have no problems to accept. In fact, I too see the main difference to the pictures in the Gallery in the additional stripes. And the two pictures in the Gallery differ in the amount of yellow stripes too.
