Dipterists' desks
John Bratton
Since Jorge's thread on dipterists' portraits was so popular, how about one on our desks? Here is mine. Don't worry if yours is not as neat and tidy, just show us it as it really is.

A very well worn chair I see. Obviously gets sat in a lot. Grin

Here's mine as it is.

Things to note:
* A wall poster of the plates of the new Finnish hoverfly book. *Very* collectible, as far as I know, only six copies were made Pfft
* The mess - I guess we dipterists spend our time organising photographs or collections, keeping a clean desk takes a distant second place
* The topless woman. The page three girl photo - in itself rather plain - was captioned "Finally a summer without flies" so naturally I had to keep it.

The microscope is a XTL-101T from GX optical - see http://www.gxopti...index.html. The list price is ?500 (631 euro) but that includes UK tax. (I got mine cheaper than that, though - because I have a nice smile? Grin)
The Flora tubs are full of mosquito breeding tubes - it's my current obsession.Pfft

My basement bug room, mostly taken up with insect cabinets; another whole wall with more cabinets out of view. But not all filled with Flies - a few Leps.

I've just noticed the blocks under your desk, Tony - they look like a great way to get it to the correct height for the microscope. I think I may copy that! Smile

Yes, at the start of the month it's always that tidy; but after a few weeks one cannot actually see the desk topGrin

I'm tall and my chair is one designed for a lab. bench; and the seat is high. Needed the blocks to save my neck and shoulders.

I used to stand my microscope on a pile of books to get a comfortable height, but now I have a nice adjustable boom.
