I'd say Melanostoma mellinum female. Use the Syrphidae forum next time to get expert opinions! Regards, Sundew |

It's a female Platycheirus. Female Melanostoma have never squarish spots.

Ah - that's very interesting and new to me! Up to now I followed an internet description saying: "Melanosoma mellinum - rectangular spots, M. scalare - U-shaped spots" without mentioning that there is a difference between males and females. Obviously it isn't that easy... Cheers, Sundew |
