Hello! Slender hoverfly with big eyes. Found amongst dense shrubland near a meadow in Hungary. Formerly I have not seen this species. Rather small, does not reach 10 mm. I have more shots from it. 24th of July 2008 Edited by eguzki on 19-08-2008 19:44 Greetings, Tomi |

Not Platycheirus, it's a male of Melanostoma mellinum! Male Platycheirus have modified fore legs, in which the femura have different kinds of hair modification and the tibia and/ or tarsae have modifications like broadened tip of tibia and/or broadened tarsae. Greetings Greetings, Gerard Pennards |

Not that we see much of the tarsae... And it seems to have a dusted face. Spots on second pic a bit like P. peltatus, but wrong legs. Dito argument for P. nielseni. I'm in doubt Gerard.. But my first hunch also was Melanostoma. So it must be it ![]() Edited by Andre on 21-08-2008 20:39 |
