Hello! Slender hoverfly with big eyes. Found amongst dense shrubland near a meadow in Hungary. Formerly I have not seen this species. Rather small, does not reach 10 mm. I have more shots from it. 24th of July 2008 Edited by eguzki on 19-08-2008 19:44 Greetings, Tomi |

Not Platycheirus, it's a male of Melanostoma mellinum! Male Platycheirus have modified fore legs, in which the femura have different kinds of hair modification and the tibia and/ or tarsae have modifications like broadened tip of tibia and/or broadened tarsae. Greetings Greetings, Gerard Pennards |

Not that we see much of the tarsae... And it seems to have a dusted face. Spots on second pic a bit like P. peltatus, but wrong legs. Dito argument for P. nielseni. I'm in doubt Gerard.. But my first hunch also was Melanostoma. So it must be it Edited by Andre on 21-08-2008 20:39 |
