Tephritidae - Icterica westermanni?
jonas
Hi,

Yesterday I got my book about Tephritidae, and this was my first Tephritidae determined.
I'm accualy not really shure.. Thats why I ask it here Smile

Im not really shure it is Icterica westermanni (=Merzomyia westermanni), because I read it is a rare species in North-Belgium. But still, if anyone could confirm. Are there any Campioglossums similar?

Other info:
Found many animals on Senecio jacobaea (+-10 on 100 meters).
In Ostend (Belgium)
size of the wing: +-6mm from base to tip
date of catch: 14august. (so the animal is collected)

Many thanks, Jonas

Nosferatumyia
surely Merzomyia westermanni. My reason to exclude this species from Icterica and to erect a separate genus was that the N American Icterica and the Olde World "I." westermanni and allied licenti Chen and mongolica Korneyev actually belong to a different tribe... So Merzomyia is the valid generic name.

Nosferatumyia
BTW, it is not rare in the Netherlands: most of my specimens were collected there by Bob van Aartsen and John Smith. It is also present here in Ukraine, but only in the South East.

Great!

thank you very much.
I'm glad my first Tephritidae-determination was right. I will add the photo to the gallery.

Bye, Jonas

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
