Shining blue flies
Juergen Peters
Hello!

Here are several blue metallic flies found yesterday in Ostwestfalen/Germany on a meadow near a forest. Is it possible to restrict them to family or genus level? Thanks in advance!

The first one seems - from the wing venation - to be a Calliphorid. It was slightly larger and much bluer than a typical Lucilia.

I'm not sure if this larger fly (13-15 mm) is a Calliphorid or perhaps a Tachinid:

The last one (sorry, bad picture) seems to be a Muscid (ca. 10 mm):

Best regards,
Jürgen

It isn't easy with this blue things.
My idaes:
1. I can't choise between Protophormia terraenovae (pro - too dark and thorax looks flatterned) Lucilia sp. (pro - too white face and it becames too late for Protophormia).
2. I think Cynomyia mortuorum, Calliphoridae. But with atypicaly white (not yellow face).
3. I think you are right Dasyphora/Eudasyphora, Muscidae.

I know, I know...

Maybe all is a little bit late this year (we had a long winter until end of march here). The fly did not look like a typical Lucilia for me.

2. I think Cynomyia mortuorum, Calliphoridae. But with atypicaly white (not yellow face).

Thanks, you may be right. That species is flying numerously here at the moment, but I only knew the typical individuals, yet: http://insektenfo...e)_008.jpg
