Hello! Syrphids are not usual in November in our region (except sometimes Episyrphus balteatus or adult overwinterers like Eristalis tenax). This 7-8 mm female I found today at the forest border (northwest Germany). I have read that the light green halteres indicate Melanostoma scalare, but also some flies with yellow halteres were identified as M. scalare in the last postings here (?). This is the wholly pollinose face and distinct spots on frons that identify Melanostoma scalare, like this one (though this species has often greenish halters it's true).
