Asilidae in Pinus Sylvestris...
Matthieu
Hello! Smile

One month ago i found a pupa in a recently dead pinus sylvestris, under bark. The imago emerged this week. It looks like an Asilidae, maybe a Laphria sp.? Is it possible to identify it with these photos?

Found near Tours (France).

No idea? Is there any detail that could help the identification?

Hello Matthieu,

it is a Laphriinae, perhaps a Choerades gilva or C. ignea. But I only can determine the german species, perhaps there are same other in France.
A beautiful Asilidae!

What a terrible creature! I will be in Blois by this evening, so not so very far away. I hope I see something this good on the weekend - the weather is dreadful in England at this minute, so I am expecting France to take up the opportunity to be better.

If I see anything good I will post it on the forum.

I haven't got my books with me, so I can't help with the ID at the moment though - sorry.
