i saw lots Bibio males in a wood, but just foundt one female, could it be they were all ovipositing? ?? I don?t know why but everytime i got nearer from them they began to move upside-down the front legs (not other legs, and not leaving, keeping in the same place), more quickly the more near i got Maybe an alert behaviour? thanks in advance |

Perhaps. If they only just appeared, then maybe the females were still to come (males often emerge before females). This male may have been trying to 'scare' you away. The species: Bibio leucopterus? Paul - - - - Paul Beuk on https://diptera.info |

I agree, Bibio leucopterus. I must warn the reader that B. marci males have wings as milky white as this one. The spur on the left front tibia seems to be long, which is the critical feature for leucopterus. Theo zeegers |
