My suggestion is a small species of the Dolichopodidae.

Looks quite different from the Dolichopodidae I know. The usually seen Dolichopodidae in Japan are long-legged like the presumed Sciapus nebulosus attached or the other common species Dolichopus nitidus.

In general you are right about the longish legs in this family. They are called long-legged flies for a reason. Wink Still, the are several exceptions. The long legs are already shorter in a genus like Medetera (see: http://www.dipter..._id=80#285), but in genera like Chrysotus and Chrysotimus, the legs are really shortish. Still, if someone has a better alternative, I am open to it.

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
