Hello! Last year on feirst of May I found in the Spessart-Highlands (600m) this Cheilosia stiiting on Ranunculaceae. Habitat; wet meadow. Is it possible to say which species? Regards Andreas Andreas Haselboeck Stuttgart / Germany http://www.naturs... |

Cheilosia albitarsis is an early Ranunculus lover. In your first pic, a yellow fore tarsus might be recognizable. However, we need experts' opinion. Regards, Sundew |

Indeed, Sundew is right. But!! Unfortunately there is a lookalike which is not identifiable from these pictures. Wet meadow would indicate albitarsis, but that's not sure! So, this is a male Cheilosia albitarsis/ ranunculi! Greetings Edited by Gerard Pennards on 07-03-2009 17:47 Greetings, Gerard Pennards |
