This big old bearded lady was found behind a plant pot holding an artificial tree (how naff is that), in the Crew Room (Fixed Wing),@ Scatsta Airport. Is that too much information? She is approx 12mm in length,(Beard to Butt). Which species this time? No Air Hostesses were involved during filming of this Spider..  ..which is a shame.

Hello, Roger! Now that there seem to come no new opinions on the other one in the spider forum , I will make a decision  : This (and the other one) is with a certainty of 99% Amaurobius similis. Reasons: 1.) A. ferox can be safely excluded from colouration and general impression/habitus, 2.) A. fenestralis very seldom inhabitats buildings, it is (at least here) mostly found in forests behind bark, in quarries etc., 3.) A. fenestralis ist more reddish (again: at least here) and considerably smaller (never reaches 12 mm, mostly 6-8 mm) and more delicate, 4.) A. similis ist a mostly west european species, which reaches its eastern distribution border here in northwest Germany; contrarily A. similis is much more abundant in Britain, and I assume on the Shetlands, too. So all facts count for A. similis, but we can't be 100% sure... Hi Juergen I can live with 99% sure....only death is 100% sure. I don't suppose the sky will fall if I put A. similis to this spider. Yes I saw the other Website....translated the reply by GLOBAL MODERATOR Arno Grabolle (Great Title/Name)...worth a try though. Regards Roger |
