Bill Temple, a friend of mine from the Hardy Orchid Society (http://www.hardyo...ty.org.uk/) sent me the following pics and would like opinions on which hoverfly it might be. The fly has clearly detatched pollinia from the orchid so it would be nice to confirm the identification for his botanical records.

This is Eupeodes corollae (whether it's in the UK or not), considering the abdominal markings and the pattern on the frons. A very common species. |
