Certainly looks like a Syrphid, but according to the Bishops Museum catalogue for Australia, there are no Platycheirus. As with most taxa, Australia has its own peculiar collection of Syrphid genera, so you find a lot of para-this and austra-that, which look like the European species, but aren't. I've checked the list for possible alternatives, but don't know enough about what the peculiarly Australian genera look like to hazard a guess. I wondered about Melanostoma, but the list seems pretty dubious as to whether they reach Australia, although present in Japan, Indonesia and New Zealand. I am always surprised at how rarely one sees hoverflies in Australia. There are lots of species, but they are just not as evident as in Europe. Hope you had a good time in Perth. Susan |

A note: This photo is NOT MINE. This photo was made by other person. By "myrmician" . Not me. Besides, I never went to Australia... Thank you for ID possible. |

Hello, if you post a picture from another author, you should mention it. Otherwise there may be copyright problems. Gisela |

I always say when the photo is mine. I'm fervorous against plagiarism! Besides I'm in Portugal. I hope that is clear now. |
