Certainly looks like a Syrphid, but according to the Bishops Museum catalogue for Australia, there are no Platycheirus. As with most taxa, Australia has its own peculiar collection of Syrphid genera, so you find a lot of para-this and austra-that, which look like the European species, but aren't. I've checked the list for possible alternatives, but don't know enough about what the peculiarly Australian genera look like to hazard a guess. I wondered about Melanostoma, but the list seems pretty dubious as to whether they reach Australia, although present in Japan, Indonesia and New Zealand.

I am always surprised at how rarely one sees hoverflies in Australia. There are lots of species, but they are just not as evident as in Europe.

Hope you had a good time in Perth.

A note: This photo is NOT MINE. This photo was made by other person. By "myrmician" Smile. Not me. Besides, I never went to Australia...

Thank you for ID possible. Smile

I NEVER told that this image was mine! ok?
I always say when the photo is mine.
I'm fervorous against plagiarism!

Besides I'm in Portugal. Pfft

I hope that is clear now.
